The pursuit of racial equity is imperative because racism has become pervasively present in our everyday lives. Whether racism is covertly internalized and interpersonal, or overtly upheld and practiced through policies in structural and institutional systems, it adversely impacts the collective mental health and overall well-being of leaders, teams, organizations, and communities. The ultimate goal of racial equity is to include ALL people, including people of color, as stakeholders, key planners and decision makers in the systems that influence their lives. Racial equity not only serves as an outcome, but as a process of crucial race conversations, leadership training and development, policy and institutional change, as well as community engagement.
Anti-racism and accountability are antidotes to the trauma of racism.
